Energy Efficient Mortgages

Six months ago if you looked up "energy efficient mortgage" on the Internet zero came up. Now seventy five references are listed. HUD in Fresno, CA uses the promotion "LAST CHANCE!! MAKE RESERVATIONS NOW OR LOSE OUT ON A GREAT OPPORTUNITY. Energy Efficient Mortgage Training...." Evidently they think there is some growth coming.

3M Is Pushing Clean Air

3M Co. has been behind some recent mass mailings quoting Congressional Quarterly Researcher, October 27, 1995; "...indoor air is often two-to-five times more polluted than outdoor air and can be up to 1,000 times as dirty. The EPA estimates that most Americans are exposed every day to indoor contaminants that can lead to serious health problems for many people, including cancer, respiratory ailments, fatigue and headaches..."
If 3M is starting to move on IAQ there is more than something in the air - there is something in the wind.

Predator-Prey Relationships & Sick-Building Syndrome

According to one theory we get sick in polluted air because our ancestors needed almost a perfect sense of smell to survive predators.
If there was any odor in the air, say a fire on the Savannah, you couldn't smell your enemies and it was safer to get sick and hide out for a while.
You can look it up.

You Really Do Need Your Own Office!

According to Alan Hedge, Cornell University Department of Design and Environmental Analysis; "Private offices with solid walls have a lower incidence of both volatile organic compounds and particulates. In a survey ... of ...six office buildings, it was found that Sick Buiding Syndrome symptoms- -particularly headaches --were more prevalent in open-plan offices. ..these physical complaints could have been caused in part by tension from distractions and having too little privacy."
Ya gotta love an expert. Maybe they were just passing around a cold.

Did You Know?

To compensate for the extra heat created by lights and office equipment the Sears Tower in Chicago, the world's tallest building, has the AC going even when outdoor temperatures are below zero.
Direct descendents of the tower of Babel?

I Think I'll Write a Book.

If my information is correct the well respected Rocky Mountain Institute has published a book titled Hypercars:Materials, Manufacturing, and Policy Implications. It is 450 pages and you can buy it for $10,000. That could be a typo but it comes from News World Communications.
It's all about the new car of the 21st Century that will go across country on one tank.
"One way of understanding the hypercar is to look at the vision of an "island of stability" that drives nuclear physicists who attempt to construct super-heavy elements that have never been detected in the universe."
Got that? I'm going to study up and keep you posted.

IAQ Tip

Never put the air intake vent over the garbage cans.
