National Conservation Guild Forming
_________________
By Michael Wright.
Several years ago in Wright Energy's "Weatherization Network" newsletter I floated a balloon called the National Conservation Guild whereby participants would band together to promote awareness of energy conservation programs etc.
The concept would take the form of an association of weatherization people, materials providers and researchers.
Recently I have been talking to a few people about resurrecting this idea and have been getting an encouraging response.
Now with the advent of Energy Rated Homes and EEMs there should be an expanded pool of participants.
Interested parties now include lending agencies, Realtors, Energy Rating professionals, more homeowners and home buyers aware of the various loan options and a wider segment of contractors who can benefit from the expanded market afforded by the above programs.
Today we can also take advantage of the timing and excitement brought on by the emerging World Wide Web.
By that I mean the opportunity is now available to consolidate huge amounts of information into an easily accessible site location whereby a person from Washington or Delaware can go and find up to date information about getting the best deals on mortgages that include extra money for energy conservation improvements to their home, whether on a remodeling project or home purchase.
Not only do people need information on where to go for the loan but they also need to know who to turn to to rate the home, energy wise. Who specializes in the weatherization/energy-conservation construction in my area?
By building a WebSite that has this information enough people would be induced to visit it so that it would also be a viable space to create awareness of air quality information and new products and techniques coming forward. The National Conservation Guild could be the perfect host for not only an informative WebSite regarding these questions but could also function effectively by sending news releases and helping to coordinate and assist promotional efforts in specific localities.
The Guild will be open to all credible contractors, suppliers, tech people, manufactures, Realtors, lenders, etc who feel they can benefit by this mutual promotion.
We will continue to keep you informed of this development. In the meantime if you know of any people who might be interested in being on this fax list please send me their fax numbers. Also if you know of any suppliers who might want information on the subject please ask them to get in contact with us.

Many of you know, have met and worked with John Johnston of Lawrence KS. Over the years John has been very involved with CAP programs at both local and State levels. He has given seminars in over 40 States and has accumulated a concise knowledge of the inner and outer workings.
Recently John has been formulating "Ideas For Maintaining Weatherization Program Staff Capacity". He has been kind enough to send me his current workings on the project and has come up with ideas dedicated to Non-Entrepreneurial organizations, Moderately Entrepreneurial organizations and Entrepreneurial Organizations.
These ideas reflect not only expertise into CAP organizations and procedures but also appreciable knowledge on how to plan and stratagize a successful business. If you are interested in what he has come up with contact John at
