"Building Business" wiill promote home energy ratings and programs, explore new markets for home energy ratings and expand the use of ratings as a tool to help consumers improve home comfort cost effectively," according to HERSC Executive Director Cynthia Gardstein.

The FREE '97 "Building Business'' Conference will feature expert presenters from a broad range of industries and organizations who will conduct sessions focused on key constituencies with direct links to consumers. Presenters will inc·ude manufacturers of energy efficient equipment and appliances, home builders, appraisers, energy raters, lenders, and weatherization specialists. Conference planners have issued a "Call for Presenters" to teach workshops and tutorials on a variety of subjects, including creatiing and marketing financing products, consumer awareness of and demand for residential energy efficiency, creating value for consumers, the technical aspects of energy ratings and installations, and marketing and technical suscess stories.

"The conference will explore how the various stakeholders in the initiative to 'grow residential energy efficiency' can package and market their products and services to the public,''

Gardstein said. "It's a 'win-win' situation for energy-efficiency product and service providers, as well as consumers."

Another important aspect of the conference is that it will encourage partnerships among the public and private sectors, according to Gardstein. In addition, she said the conference will provide feedback about government-subsidized energy perfomance programs. The "All Star Awards." are also scheduled to be presented during the conference. The awards recognize individuals for exceptional contributions to the development, growth, and market placement of programs facilitating residential energy efficiency and energy-efficientfinancing.
